The hike will start from the Moree Markets on August 7th where the hikers will make their way to Garah. Spanning over six days the walkers will walk/run/jog through Garah, Mungindi, Boomi, Boggabilla, Croppa Creek and back to Moree on the 12th of August where we’ll be having a Connect Day at the Town Hall to welcome all the hikers back into town.
We’d love for you to join us on the hike, entry forms are available from the Byamee office in Warialda St Moree or from NOWFM & 2VM reception in Balo St Moree.
The Hike for Homeless is an event aimed at creating awareness for the issues surrounding homelessness. It also aims to provide awareness around the changing service system for those that need Specialist Homelessness Services. Funds raised through this event will be put back into the communities in which the event will be held in early intervention and prevention programs.
The complexities of homelessness are many. It is something that could affect anybody. From once rich and famous movie stars right down to the child who has never known any other life. People often see homelessness as an older man filthy, drinking and sleeping on the park bench. Whilst there might be a few out there that meet that stereotype the reality is that there is no one type. On any given night in Australia 1 in 200 are homeless (how many would that have been from your school?). Over 17,800 of these are children under the age of 10. The statistics are incredible.
